Well in Wambe, Peru

In the last decade, Business Without Borders partnered with Global Advance to drill two wells in Wambe, Peru. Wambe is a remote village located in the middle of the Amazon jungle with a population of approximately 120 indigenous people who did not have access to clean drinking water.

Typically, water is taken from an open cistern that collects rain water. The water is used for drinking, laundry and bathing. Malaria is also a problem In some communities because this stagnant water they use for all their needs is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Because of this, children who have not built up a defense to the bacteria present in the water suffer from diarrhea, malnutrition, developmental problems, disease and death.

A clean water well enables us to lay the foundation for sustainable change with a price tag that is appealing to most donors. By drilling a simple well we are partly able to provide a long term solution to the problem. Our partners on the ground work on the other part of the solution by teaching good hygiene and nutrition. We have found that without clean water it is almost impossible to do any further community development. For the price of a coffee a day you can improve the health, life and development of children who may not otherwise have an opportunity for a healthy life.
